Reset a password
If nobody knows the password of a local Windows account any more, O&O UserManager sets a new one. You do not need the old password.
Prerequisites:
- O&O BlueCon is started and the Windows installation is selected as the target system.
- The account is a local account of that installation. Domain accounts and Microsoft accounts cannot be changed with O&O UserManager.
- You are authorized to change the account.
Set a new password
- Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > O&O UserManager.
- Check the Target system: at the top. Change… selects another Windows installation.
- Open Users and select the account.
- Click Set password….
- Enter the New password: and repeat it under Confirm password:. Click OK.
- Close O&O UserManager and restart the computer from its disk.
If the account is disabled or locked out, open Properties… and clear Account is disabled or Account is locked out on the General tab.
Result
The user signs in to Windows with the new password.
Resetting the password invalidates the user's files encrypted with the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS), the user's personal certificates and saved network passwords. Their encryption cannot be restored. Copy encrypted files before, while the user can still decrypt them, or use the user's EFS certificate backup.
For an account that is linked to a Microsoft account, reset the password online at Microsoft, or create a new local administrator account with O&O UserManager and sign in with it. See Manage users and groups.
