Read the event logs
Windows records errors of drivers, services and programs in its event logs. O&O EventViewer shows the logs of the installation on the disk, so you can find out what went wrong before Windows stopped starting.
Prerequisites: O&O BlueCon is started and the Windows installation is selected as the target system.
Show the logs of the target system
- Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > O&O EventViewer.
- Check the Target: at the top. Change… selects another Windows installation.
- Choose the System log for drivers and services, or the Application log for programs.
- Narrow the list: set the dates under From and To, or choose a Source.
- Browse the list page by page with â—€ and â–¶. The columns show Level, Date and time, Source and Event ID.
- Select an entry. General shows its message, Details the technical data.
Look for errors around the time of the failed start. The Source and the Event ID of an error often name the driver or service that fails.
Reload (F5) reads the logs again.
Open a log file
To read a log from another computer or a saved log:
- Click Open log… (Ctrl+O), or +.
- Select the .evtx file.
If O&O EventViewer finds no Windows installation, use this to open a log file directly.
