What the Checks Cover

The four options address different parts of the running Windows installation. Select at least one option to enable Check.

OptionWhat it checksRepair behavior
Check component storeThe health of the Windows component store used for servicingUses Windows servicing functionality to restore component-store health.
Check system filesProtected Windows system filesUses System File Checker to verify files during checking and repair them during the repair pass.
Check diskFile-system consistency on the configured system driveRequests file-system repair through Windows disk-checking functionality.
Check Windows recovery environmentAvailability and version suitability of the recovery imageAttempts to restore a suitable Windows recovery environment.

Choose the appropriate scope

For a general check, leave all four selected. To investigate one reported problem, select the relevant area. The result describes only the checks you selected; it is not a complete hardware or malware diagnosis.

The disk check concerns file-system structures. It does not provide a drive lifespan estimate or replace a hardware health test. Check&Repair's window does not offer an arbitrary drive picker.

The tool performs the selected checks in order: component store, system files, disk, then recovery environment. Some steps can take several minutes and their progress may advance unevenly.
