What the Checks Cover
The four options address different parts of the running Windows installation. Select at least one option to enable Check.
| Option | What it checks | Repair behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Check component store | The health of the Windows component store used for servicing | Uses Windows servicing functionality to restore component-store health. |
| Check system files | Protected Windows system files | Uses System File Checker to verify files during checking and repair them during the repair pass. |
| Check disk | File-system consistency on the configured system drive | Requests file-system repair through Windows disk-checking functionality. |
| Check Windows recovery environment | Availability and version suitability of the recovery image | Attempts to restore a suitable Windows recovery environment. |
Choose the appropriate scope
For a general check, leave all four selected. To investigate one reported problem, select the relevant area. The result describes only the checks you selected; it is not a complete hardware or malware diagnosis.
The disk check concerns file-system structures. It does not provide a drive lifespan estimate or replace a hardware health test. Check&Repair's window does not offer an arbitrary drive picker.
The tool performs the selected checks in order: component store, system files, disk, then recovery environment. Some steps can take several minutes and their progress may advance unevenly.
