Windows Recovery Environment

The Windows recovery environment provides tools used for recovery and maintenance when Windows cannot run normally. Check&Repair verifies that recovery image data is present and suitable for the running Windows version.

Check before repairing​

Select Check Windows recovery environment and choose Check. A failure can mean the image is missing or does not match the current Windows installation. Read the reported message before choosing Repair.

Recovery repair can involve obtaining and preparing replacement recovery data. Keep a working network connection and enough free space for temporary data. Allow the process to finish before shutting down.

Additional recovery prompts​

If the recovery environment is missing, the repair can ask for another step:

  • Set up a recovery partition and environment: offered when a local recovery image is found. This changes the recovery configuration and may create a partition; read the prompt before accepting.
  • Download a recovery image: offered when no local image is found. A suitable download location may not be available for your Windows version.
  • Recover from a Windows ISO file: offered as another source when no image is available. Select a suitable Windows ISO in the file picker when requested.

These steps require your response. Declining or cancelling an image-selection prompt can leave the recovery check unresolved. Keep a current backup before accepting changes to recovery partitions.

If recovery repair fails​

Record the exact error and check the log if offered. Include the Windows version and the Check&Repair version when contacting support. Do not delete or resize recovery partitions merely because this check failed; the check result alone does not identify a partition-layout solution.

A successful check confirms this part of the configuration. It does not test every possible recovery scenario or create a backup of your files.
