Repairing Detected Problems

From checking to repair

After a check reports a problem, the main action becomes Repair. Review the selected areas before starting. The repair pass operates on the selected areas, rather than offering a separate repair button for each failed row.

Repairs use Windows maintenance facilities. They may need network access to obtain repair or recovery data. If Windows servicing cannot find suitable source data or a required service is unavailable, the repair can fail even though the problem was detected correctly.

Let the operation finish

Keep the computer connected to power. Avoid starting another Windows repair or servicing operation at the same time. Wait for the result before closing the application or restarting Windows.

If you choose Cancel, the application asks for confirmation. During repair it gives an additional warning because interruption can leave an inconsistent system. Cancellation is a request to stop the work, not a rollback of changes already performed.

When problems remain

Open Show log file when offered and record the failing area and error text. Follow any restart instructions shown by Windows. After the required restart, check the affected area again. Repeating repair without understanding the logged error may not resolve a missing source, permission issue or damaged recovery setup.
