First steps

Goal: run the four checks once and, if needed, repair the areas they report.

Prerequisites: an administrator account and a current backup of important files.

  1. Save your work and start OOCheckAndRepair.exe, or open it from the tools of the O&O product that includes it.
  2. Approve the Windows administrator prompt. System maintenance needs elevated permissions.
  3. Select the checks to run: Check component store, Check system files, Check disk and Check Windows recovery environment.
  4. Select Check and wait. The window shows the current topic and step number; the selected options are locked while the run is active.
  5. Review the marks beside the checks. If the check finds problems, the action changes to Repair.
  6. Select Repair to let the tool repair the selected areas. Keep the computer powered and let the run finish.
  7. If problems remain, select Show log file when it is offered and follow the troubleshooting chapter.
Repair changes Windows

Keep a current backup of important files before repairing the system. Cancelling an active repair can leave Windows in an inconsistent state.

Result: each selected check shows a status, and the window shows a combined result at the end. The check does not start the repair pass by itself. See What the checks cover for the scope of each option.
