Background service and tray controls

The O&O Defrag Agent performs maintenance independently of the main application window. The notification-area application provides status and, when permitted, controls for that work.

Enable the tray icon

Open Settings → Reports and enable the option to show the O&O Defrag icon in the task tray. A sign-out and sign-in may be needed before the icon appears. Check Windows' notification-area overflow if it is not immediately visible.

The Make advanced controls available to logged on users option controls additional user access through the tray. Review it as part of the machine's administration policy.

Read activity

Use the tray icon and its menu to inspect available status and open the main application. For exact drive progress, open Drive Optimization and check the selected drive.

If you need to stop an operation, use an explicit Stop command and wait for acknowledgement. Exiting or closing a user-interface window is not equivalent to stopping the agent.

Automatic work

The agent manages background optimization and jobs. Inspect both Automatic Optimization and Schedules when investigating unexpected activity.

Do not disable the service as the first way to pause routine maintenance. Use the application's settings and run controls so the intended configuration remains visible.

Hibernation mode

Choose Start hibernation mode to suspend the agent service and Stop hibernation mode to start it again. Starting it requests elevation and stops the O&O Defrag Agent service, affecting both interfaces and all agent work. It does not hibernate Windows. Stopping the mode starts the service again.

Use Pause for an ordinary interruption while keeping the agent available. Tray operation commands act across the tray's drive list; select a drive in the main interface when you need a narrower scope.

Drive activity tools

O&O DriveLED is a separate application launched from Tools. Its drive-activity display is distinct from Defrag's own task-tray status. See Additional tools.
