Reports and logs

Reports record individual backup operations. Logs provide additional detail when a problem has to be analyzed.

Reports

When Create report is enabled under Settings > Report, O&O DiskImage records every backup operation. A report contains:

  • the time and duration of the backup,
  • the parameters used,
  • the files involved and the storage space used,
  • warnings or errors,
  • the validation result, if validation is enabled,
  • the overall status of the backup.

Open Restore backups, select the backup and select Show reports to read its reports. Use them to monitor backups, to document that they ran, and to find the cause of a problem.

Reports add a little administrative effort and storage space. Disable them only if you do not need the information.

Logs

Settings > Logging enables detailed logs of the backup operations. A log records the start and end time of a backup, the files involved, the size of the backup, and errors and warnings that occurred.

Logs help with three things:

  • Troubleshooting: errors and warnings are recorded with their context, so the cause of a problem is easier to find.
  • Monitoring: the logs show whether all planned backups ran as intended.
  • Documentation: they are evidence that backups were performed, which some environments require.

Contact support

If you contact O&O Software support, include:

  • the version of O&O DiskImage (About on the start page) and the Windows version,
  • the report of the failed operation,
  • the type of source and destination, for example the system drive and a USB disk,
  • whether the backup was started manually, by schedule or when connecting the drive,
  • whether the problem occurred in Windows, in Fortress Mode or in the recovery environment of the startup medium.

Add the logs if support requests them.
