Restore files
To get individual files or folders back, mount the backup as a virtual drive. Windows then shows the backup like a normal drive, and you copy the files you need.
Mount a backup
- Open Tools on the start page and select Mount drives.
- Select the backup file. If the backup is encrypted, enter its password.
- Confirm. The drives of the backup appear with their own drive letters in Windows Explorer.
- Copy the files and folders you need to the PC.
Use this to access files from a backup, to restore individual data, or to compare the content of a backup with the current state.
Backups in the VHD and VHDX formats can be mounted as well; mounting is the only way to access their content with O&O DiskImage.
Remove the virtual drive
When you no longer need the files, open Tools and select Cancel integration. The virtual drive disappears from the drive overview of Windows; the backup file itself is not changed.
Restore a file backup
A backup created with Back up files can also be restored as a whole: open Restore backups, select the file backup, specify what to restore and the destination, and follow the wizard. Restoring to the original location overwrites existing files; restore to a separate folder if you want to compare the files first.
