Restore Drives

Drive restore writes image data back to a drive or partition. This is a powerful and destructive operation: the selected target can be overwritten.

Restore A Drive Or Partition​

  1. Open Restore backups.
  2. Select the image backup set.
  3. Choose Restore entire drives from backup.
  4. Select the backup run.
  5. Map the source drive or partition from the image to the target drive or partition.
  6. Review the summary carefully.
  7. Confirm the warning and start the restore.

Target Size Checks​

O&O DiskImage checks whether the selected target has enough space. For partition restore, the target must fit the used data plus filesystem overhead. A target can sometimes be smaller than the original partition if the used data fits, but it cannot be too small.

Mount Instead Of Restore​

If you only need to inspect an image or copy a few files, use Mount backup as drive. Mounted backups are available read-only in Windows, so you can browse them with Windows Explorer without overwriting a target disk.

After Restore​

After restoring a system volume, reboot and verify Windows starts correctly. After restoring a data volume, confirm that files and applications see the restored data as expected.
