Restore Overview
Restore brings data back from a backup. O&O DiskImage supports restoring files and directories, restoring entire drives or partitions, and mounting supported image backups as read-only drives.
Restore Entry Points
Use Manage backups or Restore backups to select an existing backup set. Backups on disconnected storage can still appear so you know which restore points exist; connect the storage before starting the restore.
For each backup set, O&O DiskImage can show backup files, reports, metadata, backup type, creation date, source computer, user, dependency information, and file path.
Restore Types
| Restore type | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Restore files and directories | You need selected files or folders from a file backup. |
| Restore entire drives from backup | You need to overwrite a drive or partition with data from an image. |
| Mount backup as drive | You want read-only access to image contents in Windows Explorer. |
| Full system restore | Windows or the system disk must be restored from a recovery environment. |
Safety Before Restore
Drive and partition restore operations overwrite the selected target. Always confirm that the target is the correct drive or partition. O&O DiskImage shows the selected targets in the wizard summary and asks for confirmation before destructive operations.
For full system recovery, start from Fortress Mode or bootable rescue media so locked system volumes can be restored safely.
