O&O RegEditor User Guide

Welcome to the user guide for O&O RegEditor, the free Windows registry editor from O&O Software. This guide shows you how to browse the Windows registry, create and edit keys and values, search efficiently, import and export data using .reg files, and manage registry permissions securely.

O&O RegEditor gives you full access to the Windows registry, where the operating system and many applications, drivers, and services store their configuration settings. Its interface is based on the familiar Windows Registry Editor and enhances it with powerful productivity features, including an advanced search with a results list, favourites, direct address bar navigation, and a modern user interface with dark mode and High-DPI support.

Handle the registry with care

Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious problems that affect the entire system and may require you to reinstall Windows. Before making any changes, back up your important data - for example by creating a system image with O&O DiskImage - and export any registry keys you plan to modify. O&O Software cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the improper use of O&O RegEditor can be resolved. You use O&O RegEditor at your own risk.

What You Can Do​

  • Browse the registry using the familiar key tree and value list, or jump directly to any registry path through the address bar.
  • Create, edit, rename, and delete keys and values of all Windows-supported data types.
  • Enter numeric values in hexadecimal, decimal, or binary format using the value editor.
  • Search the registry for keys, value names, and value data using options such as Match Case, Whole Word, and Regular Expression, with live search results as you type.
  • Save search results as a .reg file or a tab-separated text file for later analysis.
  • Import and export Windows-compatible .reg files.
  • Manage favourites and frequently used registry keys for quick access.
  • Manage permissions and advanced security settings for registry keys.
  • Customize your experience with dark mode, crisp High-DPI icons, comprehensive keyboard support, and your preferred interface language.
