Performance Checks

SpeedCheck brings together measurements and Windows settings that can affect responsiveness.

Essential checks​

  • System drive type: identifies whether Windows is on SSD or HDD storage.
  • Free disk space: assesses available space on volumes; the check uses a 20% or 50 GB free-space threshold.
  • Available memory: looks for at least 20% available RAM in the current snapshot.
  • Startup programs: counts startup entries, including disabled ones, and can open Task Manager for review.
  • Windows patch status: examines the installed Windows state; checking for pending updates is available on demand.

System and resources​

The tool examines the power plan, busy processes, memory-slot information, uptime, pending restart indications and Fast Startup. Process information is a snapshot: review an unfamiliar process before deciding what to do in Windows.

Boot measurements come from Windows' Diagnostics-Performance event log. If no suitable events are available, a boot time cannot be inferred from that absence.

Storage and Windows options​

Additional checks cover TRIM, the drive-optimization schedule, temporary files, Storage Sense, visual effects, graphics options, core isolation, search indexing and background applications. Many are informational and lead to the relevant Windows settings page.

The temporary-files finding measures candidates; SpeedCheck does not clean them itself. Likewise, an app-update finding does not mean SpeedCheck has installed those updates.
